There really is not much one can say about Mr Paine and his book - simply excellent. Not only does it cover all the current challenges we as L&D professionals face but he supports each one with a case study and options / strategies to go forward. His ability to tap into some of the gurus of L&D from around the world brings this book to life as they recount how they went about resolving and addressing these challenges.The book covers everything from the changing L&D landscape, 70-20-10, Neuroscience, Performance Support and Instructional Design and my favourite of all was Learning Impact.If you are a learning professional and looking at way to address your current challenges the book will go a long way in helping you achieve that.

Really enjoyed this book that I found out about in a review on TD (the ATDs magazine). Gives really practical advice and insights, plus case studies from companies. Well worth it!

Love it.

One of the major themes of Mage the Awakening is exploration, and one of the major areas for that exploration is the ruins of ancient Atlantis. This being a World of Darkness book, there's a lot more to it, of course. The myth of Atlantis is the defining myth of the Mage worldview, whether they accept that and believe it or not. The first chapter delves into the myths and stories about Atlantis. Quite a lot of players from the old World of Darkness despised the choice to make the origin for true Mages. Part of that, perhaps a large part, was that it gave a clear and fixed beginning for Mages ... supposedly. The first chapter is a mind-spinning recounting of Mage research on Atlantis. Where was it? An island in the mid-Atlantic, of course. Or the continent of Antarctica. Or the Americas. Or New Zealand. Or in East Asia, the Middle East, the Sahara, the Mediterranean, Britain (that was new to me), Iceland, Scandinavia ... pick a location on land or sea, and some mage has evidence Atlantis was there. Then there the theories of a hollow Earth or a planet where the asteroid field now is. It is a wonderfully written chapter, and most of it is based on real-world claims, too. The best part of it may be that it links mages together, through time and across continents, in their research and travels because of Atlantis.The second and third chapters get into the fine details of exploration. The second chapter deals with the concepts of exploration, why mages go looking, how they get leads to lost ruins or artifacts. There are extensive descriptions of all the types of things that could be in a ruin: challenges, guardians, other explorers, weird creatures that escaped from experiments or were attracted to an uninhabited ruin, and of course pages of descriptions of all kinds of traps, magical and sometimes not. Naturally, there are also descriptions of all the kinds of treasures and artifacts and such the explorers may find. The third chapter goes into specifics, setting out example guardians, spirits and weird creatures, and example items and artifacts.The fourth chapter is still about exploration, but not so much about Atlantis. It is about the Astral Realms, a topic not covered in much detail by Mage books at this point. This section goes into considerable detail about the Temenos in general and various realms in particular. I find the concept itself fascinating, and the image of thousands of generations of mages exploring here and constructing citadels, libraries and universities is awe-inspiring. Then the chapter moves on to the creatures of the Temenos, and how those things can escape into the material world, and it inspires fear as well. Any player or storyteller interested in the Mastigos and inner demons should find this chapter really interesting and useful.Rather unusually, the book has an appendix which contains a conclusion rounding off the book as a whole. The appendix is about Atlantean High Speech, and goes into technical but clear details of how languages are constructed. It is also about the efforts of mages to reconstruct that language. There is subtle but powerful theme running through this section: in Atlantis, whatever it was, one mage feuded with another, but as a group they were united. Until the Celestial War divided them, that is. Now the main goal of plundering a ruin is to gain magic items and spells that can empower one cabal, or one lone mage, against all the rest. But recording and translating the High Speech would enhance the lives of all the Awakened - with the catch that they have to work together to even begin such a project. It is a sobering reminder that knowledge is power when you hoard it, but can become wisdom when you spread it around, a very fitting image for this game.

Got 3 cook books returned 2 but this is a keeper. I am a vegetarian and love love love the simple pantry ingredients, plus healthy no fuss subs can be easily done. Nutrition labels, yeah. No yuky fake sweetners. Trying the banana muffins this weekend. Will add to review when I finish. My picky meat eating husband even remarked on how many he would try.

Love this cookbook! I’ve been a vegetarian for eight years but have recently felt like I’m in a recipe slump. This cookbook supplied me with plenty of simple, fast, and most importantly healthy recipes to add to my arsenal. As a vegetarian it’s easy to fall into the rut of just eating lots of carbs and cheese (ie: quesadillas everyday...) and a lot of vegetarian cookbooks tend to have complicated recipes with tons of ingredients. Not this one! Love it for my busy family.

90% of the ingredients are in my house! This is huge to me. Simple recipes that sound amazing. Books like this give me thoughts on mixibg items I might have not tried. Thanks Elizabeth💘

I looked through this book on vacation. I can’t wait to try these recipes . The only thing that I would change is that she uses canned beans. I would like to have the recipes with home cooked beans....I can adjust but it would have been nice.

This cookbook is amazing. I'm downright lazy when it comes to cooking, and the recipes in this cookbook feel like they were made for me. I love how simple every thing is, yet so delicious and flavorful. Love that most of the recipes can be altered to be gluten free or vegetarian. This book has given me confidence to get back in the kitchen and try new things - that are surprisingly easy.

The thing that surprised and please me most about this book is how many of the ingredients I already stock, so I don't need a special trip to the store for packets of things I may never finish. The small amounts of ingredients for many of the recipes is great and means I'll be trying some recipes I would usually skip over. And the calorie counts are good. There are no photos but the recipes are straightforward enough to envision.

I bought this cookbook over a month ago and have been meal prepping with it ever since. The recipes are delicious and creative but also very practicable from a time and cost perspective. I eat mostly vegetarian at home, so this cookbook gives me many options. I love it!

Epic story of 1950s mountain climbing in remote Pakistan.

I can't recall how I came across this book the first time. It was long out of print and hard to find. I ordered my copy from New Zealand. I highly recommend it as one of the better mountaineering tales out there. There's friendship, joy, struggle, tragedy, error, and much more. The book is back in print I see. Get a copy. You'll enjoy it.

I passed my national board exam on the first try after using this workbook, with which I spent many hours working through. It should be noted that I initially began my studies many months earlier with the Fitzgerald FNP audio board review lectures + workbook, attended a live review course by Hollier 6 months earlier, and utilized the APEA "MyQ-Bank" resource in TUTOR mode in the last 3 weeks leading up to my exam. This may have been overkill, but it was the formula that brought me passing results. Zerwekh is successful with an in-depth review of each section FNP's are responsible for on the board exam. Fortunately, the national exams provide normal serum lab value ranges within the questions, however this book does not provide that information in the questions, so I wasted precious time looking that information up, as well as trying to commit the values to memory. I wouldn't recommend memorizing serum lab values because of the HUGE amounts of information FNPs are responsible for already. I cross-referenced the information presented in this book with the most current "UpToDate" database recommendations, and 98% of it was current and correct. If you are a visual/tactile learner this book will be a good choice for you because you can make notes all over the book as needed, and refer back to the information easily without a computer. I tend to commit information to memory better when I write things out. Furthermore, I would have given this book 5 stars, but I found a number of errors, and noticed that some of the preceding questions were leading. Also, don't be discouraged when you are unable to score very high with the quizes. I had to constantly remind myself that this workbook is a tool to learn where my shortcomings were before the actual board exam, and that it was not a predictor of how I would do on the actual exam.Errors found in book: Pg. 4-#14, Pg. 24-#42, Pg. 34 & 40-#43 (answer inconsistent w/rationale for #38), Pg. 40-#36 (rationale inconsistent w/correct answer), Pg. 95-#52 (Bactrim may also cause drug-induced lupus), Pg. 117-#3, Pg. 125 #26 (rationale does not match correct answer), Pg. 177-#49, Pg. 185-#20, Pg. 296-#3 (dehydration)My advice for preparing for this exam is to use at least a couple different resources. I'm not sure the live courses are worth the money because in the end you still have to sit down and do the work. They do not provide any information in the review courses that are helpful for the exam except to recap general topics. As FNPs we must all be grounded and knowledgeable in the most commonly seen conditions being cardiovascular, endocrine, and respiratory. However, what I encountered on my exam was all the ATYPICAL things you would normally not encounter in a day at the clinic. I would give examples, but I don't want to get in trouble. I also utilized YouTube videos produced by credible clinicians to a large degree, and they REALLY helped. GOOD LUCK!!!

Hart studied American history at the Johns Hopkins University and has served as Director of the Institute for the Study of American Evangelicals at Wheaton College and Academic Dean and Professor of Church History at Westminster Seminary in California. Hart's real passion is to defend the idea of "church [alone] as mediator of divine grace" (p.34). His determination to view Nevin's life and work through this grid shapes the content and tone of the book so significantly that Nevin's own deviations from that agenda are put down to "naivete" (p.43), poor health (p.73), and so on. The result is a relentlessly tendentious book. In the end, Nevin is more a vehicle for the writer's own thought than a figure worthy of more impartial study in his own right. A better choice would be Theodore Appel's "Life and Work of John Williamson Nevin."

In America, the concept of the "covenant" has degenerated into what the popular mind views as a "contract", a vertical arrangement of preference and convenience.In popular reformed theology, this devolution has reduced the church to little more than a voluntary association, presbyterian style, and worship as a devotional governed by Robert's Rules of Order.For Nevin, covenant cannot be conceived apart from the God who speaks visibly through the sacraments. For Nevin,the Church is nothing less than the historical manifestation of the Body of Christ in direct union and communion with her Risen, Glorified Lord. Worship therefore is not governed by earthly rules of Puritan propriety and procedure but rather "God's Service" where God calls man into His presence and ministers to man through Word and Sacrament, Prayer and Praise."Reformed" ecclesiology without Nevin's view of the covenant is bound to degenerate into sectarianism and, ultimately, become a humanistic enterprise in search of "new methods" to ape the life only the Risen Christ can impart: the catechetical system versus the "Anxious Bench".For his (and Schaff's) efforts, so-called "reformed theologians" have slandered him with the label "Romanist" while themselves embracing positions that would render Calvin unable to be ordained in their presbyteries due to his view of the sacraments which Nevin called the "reformed" church to return to (in his work on the "Mystical Presence").This excellent biography should be read by all those who are aghast at the shallowness of modern "reformed" worship and church life and who seek an alternative. John Williamson Nevin, a largely forgotten 19th-century American theologian, was a man on a mission. As D.G. Hart makes clear in this apt intellectual biography, Nevin passionately desired to return the Presbyterian and Reformed churches in America to a more ecclessial form of piety--one centered on an understanding of the church as Christ's Body, where His living presence is encountered in Word and Sacrament.The Second Great Awakening and evangelists like Charles Finney had taken American protestantism in a very different direction, where the role of the church was de-emphasized in favor a piety centered on revivalism and individuals' own "anxious bench" conversion experiences. Nevin became the leading theologian at Mercersburg Seminary and its parent denomination, the German Reformed Church (later RCUS). He used this position to try to make the German Reformed Church a kind of test case for his "high-church" views--which, as he demonstrated, were far closer to the convictions of John Calvin and other leading reformers than the religious enthusiasm of Finney on the one hand, or the sub-sacramental intellectualism of men like Charles Hodge on the other. First, he was the principle architect of what has become known as "Mercersburg Theology." Later, toward the end of his career, he tried to apply his views liturgically as the denomination sought to create new worship resources for the now English-speaking church.Despite Nevin's wide influence within his own denomination during his lifetime, he met great opposition that ultimately stifled his thought and contributions. His churchly piety then, as now, was simply unpopular among many American Reformed Christians. This, coupled with the denominational mergers that ultimately caused the German Reformed Church to disappear from the American scene, has left his work unjustly neglected.
