I must start this review by admitting I am an avid fan of Michael Perry, and have read and enjoyed all of his books. This, his latest, has not disappointed me. His choice of words and use of language is exceptional. His writing is first of all funny, but it is also poetic, insightful, and even sad at times. He expresses himself so clearly that the reader can personally experience the moment he is talking about. This book of essays is excellent. Once again, thank you Michael Perry!

A Michael Perry read is always a good read...and these essay collections are no exception. Quick-witted, good-natured...the real deal...sprinkle in some heartfelt here and there, and there you go!Mike is in a class of his own...he can take a simple situation and expand on it to make the reader chuckle or ruminate...in addition, first-class verbal skills and prose are not seen very often in this day and age.How about his ideas on what to do with a mole infestation on his acreage? Winter undertakings in Wisconsin? Traffic tickets? Revisiting Tom? Resurrecting Grandpa’s voice? So many...Thanks Mike.

I considered giving 5 stars, but Mr. Perry's work improves with each collection or new book. Somehow his writing becomes more alive each time because of how naturally he weaves words into sentences and sentences into paragraphs that easily mesh into the hopes, dreams, and fears we all carry inside. Now that I am done with this book I once again feel that I am a bit better for discovering Michael Perry as I am reminded to cherish what I have, whether good or bad because life does not go on forever and to be grateful for successes and even mistakes as we learn from falling down if we get back up again.

Roughneck Grace: Farmer Yoga, Creeping by Michael Perry is a very entertaining read, as is all the Michael Perry books that I have read. They are always good for a laugh and also at times empathy for some of the people and situations he writes about.

I heard Michael Perry do a reading at a book fair in Tucson recently, and he was hilarious and charming and humble. His books are like that too--fairly simple short essays about his family and friends in the small Wisconsin town where he grew up. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and will be reading more of his books.

Once again, Michael Perry amazes me with his wisdom. Couched in an "ah-shucks, who me" lingo, he imparts more meaning in his observations than most authors can only dream of. Amazing!

Fun book to read. Really appreciate he authors ssense of humor. I always look forward to reading his books.

This should be in every climber's library, along with Horst's other works. His material is backed by sound sports science and legitimately works. This is the recently-released third edition of this book, which updates it with some of the same, more recent information he has included in Training for Climbing and Maximum Climbing. Although there is a lot of overlap with those works, this book focuses more on higher end climbers. It not only works for those trying to get to 5.12, but for those trying to advance at all in those higher grades of 5.12+.The self-evaluations in this work are less elaborate than in his other works, especially compared to Conditioning for Climbing, which had very good evaluations. That is a shame because his better ones can be very helpful. In spite of that this is a great book, especially when combined with Conditioning for Climbing and Maximum Climbing (if you are high-end enough to use this book, you may want to skip Training for Climbing, which is largely the same material but aimed at climbers of all levels).

This is a good book with lots of good mental training tips and is a quick read. I was looking for more workout related information and while this book has a few, it basically takes the stance to just go out and do it. But what is "it?" The biggest points the author was trying to give was basically to lose a lot of weight and how your goals are attainable. Not a lot of effort went into actually telling you how to climb 5.12 but rather how to think you can climb 5.12. Interesting, but is nothing groundbreaking.

New climber, indoor at this time,this is a very helpful book. Helpful even for climbers not near 5.12 climbs. My current goal is 5.9,having just become a 5.8 climber. Still very, very, useful book for me.

I have just gone through the Horsts 'Training for climbing', and this is pretty much exactly the same book except with a chapter on How to climb your first 5.12a. If you already have read 'Training for climbing', then you won't get as much out of this book.

Really good book! Helps with putting everything into perspective and guide with self discovery of your strengths, weaknesses, and where training would be best. Covers some exercises and a framework for training which is great! I Highly recommend!

How to Climb 5.12 is more motivational talk than climbing guidance. There is some helpful material on scheduling, recovery, and cost-benefit assessment of different activities. However, it could stand more clear exercises for building climbing skills, strength, and eliminating fear of falling.

Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful classic story and it gets 5 stars. This particular printing, however, is completely unacceptable. It's as if someone typed it into a document, and printed it off--no page numbers, not titled at the top of each page, the lines don't even break properly (see photo). Purchased as a gift, thankfully with enough time to purchase a better quality copy--probably for less money! A disgrace to the publishing community.

I LOVED Anne of Green Gables as a child and own the complete hard copy of the Anne series. Initially, I was delighted to find this collection of books written by one of my all time favorite authors for only $0.99 (kindle price. What a steal!) and felt I had to get the digital copy for my kindle at once. As soon as the product was delivered to my device, I began to read it since it's been years since I've visited the darling world that L.M Montgomery created.I was very surprised to find that I kept tripping on certain sentences; the writing didn't seem as smooth as I remembered. When I got to chapter 6, I decided to compare a sentence in the digital print to my old, yellowing physical copy of Anne of Green Gables book. I realized why I had some difficulty reading my new digital copy: THERE ARE TYPOS IN THIS PRODUCT.It contains the WORST kinds of typos. There are typos in which it results in sentences that don't make sense. There are typos with the wrong pronouns in them that make it confusing for the reader to understand which character the publisher meant to write about. I am able to follow the story because I've read Anne of Green Gables more than once with my hard copy but for new readers, these typos will make this beautiful story difficult to read and at times, understand.I hope the digital copy can be fixed so that owners can enjoy L.M. Montgomery's work as it was meant to be enjoyed. I have given this two stars instead of one because of the fabulous price for kindle readers.

BUYER BEWARE! The version published by "CreateSpace" is slapdash print-on-demand garbage. I hoped an illustrated version would be good for a child, but I returned it on first inspection. Nowhere could I find evidence of thought or effort in layout to justify any price. Illustrations are small, extremely infrequent, and essentially worthless. Some shameless soul has simply taken LM Montgomery's text, which, as it is in the public domain, is freely available to anyone, and tried to make money selling it. Interested readers would be advised to download a free ebook or pay for a handsomer edition, such as the Puffin In Bloom version. We went with the Puffin in Bloom version and are much more satisfied.

This is a great book, but buying this edition which Marco Pedulla purports to have translated constitutes buying stolen property.The book was written in Englilsh, so Pedulla has translated nothing. What he has done has taken material free in the public domain and offered it on Amazon.Amazon should NOT support theft.

The illustrations are actually random pictures that are creepy since they are in the beginning when Anne meets Mathew Cuthbert so they insinuate a romance between them. And the free audiobook is click bait to set you up to download an app and give your email address to spammers. Screen shots of the "illustrations" below.

This review is of the kindle version of Anne: The Green Gables Complete Collection and does not reflect on the L.M. Montgomery text. The Anne books have always been favorites of mine. Buy the book, but get another edition! First issue: Really random pics grabbed from some art history textbook do not qualify as illustrations. They are more distracting than I would have imagined. Why didn't they leave the totally unrelated images out? Second issue: This is some new definition of complete that I am unacquainted with. This is Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea only. None of the later books are included. False advertising. A text I am being pulled out of by unnecessary distractions. There have to be better options. I am going in search of one.

I want to give this book more stars. I truly do. We are HUGE fans of Kate DiCamillo. We have literally every book she has written on our shelves, which is why I didn't hesitate to pre-order this one on Amazon. However, I was immediately disappointed to see a character prominently smoking a cigar on one of the pages. The smoking/smoke is described in the text as well. There doesn't need to be a reference to tobacco use in a children's book; from a child's point of view, the reference was completely superfluous to this story. I find its inclusion by my favorite children's author totally irresponsible and disappointing.The story itself, like the Leroy Ninker spin-off, is a higher reading level (at least 1-2 levels) that Mercy Watson. It is incredibly moving at times (I shed a few tears reading a passage), but in a dark, heavy way that I needed to explain to/discuss with my grandchildren. It is less organized, with lots of unrelated scenes including familiar characters. While Kate DiCamillo has never been one to shelter our children from all of life's realities, it is considerably less light-hearted than Leroy Ninker. While Francine's discouraged soul-searching goes on too long for a children's book, the message of determination/perseverance is appreciated at the end. There are books my grandchildren pick up regularly. This one isn't one they (or I, sadly) have asked to read again. Gr1-3.

I purchased this for my five year old who has loved all of Kate DiCamillo's books. He enjoyed it, though I don't think it is his favorite of her books. However, as a parent it is definitely my favorite to discuss with my child. The main character, who is very self assured and competent in previous appearances, has a traumatic experience early in the book and struggles to regain her self confidence. The idea that adults can encounter this kind of setback and/or experience an extended bout of self doubt is one that I had not yet seen treated so well in a book targeted for this age group. I think it is very useful to have an accessible book that introduces the concept to younger readers, especially ones who might have observed an adult struggling in real life. The ultimate message is encouraging and uplifting.

All of the Mercy Watson and Tales from Deckawoo Drive from Kate DiCamillo are the PERFECT reading level for my 6 year old. She started reading these when she was 5. Great beginning chapter books! Clean and respectful content, silly stories, good word repetition, opportunities to expand vocabulary and practice intonation...we sit and read together and giggle for hours!

Lots of figurative language. My 7 years old had to really learn and guess what it meant. Good for learning vocabulary and meanings of some figurative language. Might be a little hard for some kids to remember specific details due to a language.

What can I say? These books are endearingly written with a touch of insight to the human condition that responses with all ages. I'm so glad we found this series. My 5 and 7 year old grandchildren love them, as do I.

My grandkids love these books by Kate DiCamillo. They are funny and the stories repeat a phrase often. The kids chant 'Toast with a great deal of butter" at just the right part of the storywith delight!

My grandchildren, ages 10, 8, 7 and 6, really enjoyed this book, They liked the screechy sounds of the raccoon, and the lively character of Francine Poulet. The older children could read it by themselves, and the younger children enjoyed listening to the story and finding out why the raccoon could say Francine's name. Kate DiCamillo does it again with another hilarious book filled with quirky characters and zany situations. She's such a clever writer! My 10 year-old son had a blast reading this book out loud together.

There are 4 different illustration styles here, which is so weird. The eyes change from round white circles with pupils, to black dots, to almond shapes with pupils, to slits. It's jarring and hot as well done as the others in this series. Some of the words also felt a little lazy or not really Hanukkah specific.

Great quality and fun!

This is a beautiful little board book with lovely illustrations that show diverse people of all ages engaging in Jewish activities, including many related to, but not necessarily limited to, Hanukkah. Of particular interest is the female rabbi on the page for the letter R!

Sure, some readers might quibble with this item or that one, but I don't know that anyone else could have assembled a selection this good.The book is bound in leather, which takes travel and abuse better than hard boards, and is approximately 6" x 9", too big for most pockets but just right for a carry-on, purse, or school pack. The paper is off-white, the print is somewhat larger than in most books, and the typeface is attractive an easy, making this an easy-on-the-eyes volume.The authors include Hildegard von Bingen, Chaucer (in Middle English, which with very little effort both you and your child can understand and enjoy), Dante, St. Robert Southwell, Edmund Spenser (not our friend, but he does has his moments), John Milton (the same), John Donne, Charles Wesley, Coleridge, Newman, Whittier, George MacDonald, Thompson, Belloc, Chesterton, and more, more, more.If you've been good, you deserve this book; if you've been bad, you need this book. If you're a fan of Joseph Pearce and/or a fan of good classic poetry this book is for you. It makes a perfect gift for a poetry lover because of the attractive leather covering, binding, and ribbon place marker. It's not super big- that's my only complaint; I would have loved to see more poems included. But there was a lot I had never run across so it was a very interesting and beautiful addition to our poetry library.

This book is a treasure. Very pleasant to look at, to hold, to read, and the selection of poetry is PHENOMINAL. Everything I could have asked for and more. I carry this book in my purse and it's like I can carve out silence and music no matter where I am. Truly, I have never felt so strongly about a book in my life. I don't usually *write* Amazon reviews but I felt so strongly about this book that I came on Amazon specifically to do so. I LOVE it.

This is a great collection of poems. Very nice to keep beside bed or chair. Pick it up if you need a boost out of today's madness.

You don't have to be Catholic to revisit or learn these poems. Pearce's commentary is subtle and what we get is a lesson in the History of poetry. The binding is the icing on the cake.

As a Catholic and an English Literature lover, this book is inspiring and satisfying.
