As the week progresses, he thinks of flying and builds wings for the wagon, which break off when he tries to take off on a wooden ramp. His father is a continual presence—pulling him in the wagon, working beside him in the garage, running to see about him when he crashes, and, finally, sharing his flight of imagination. Subtle alliteration moves the story through the week, as in "Wednesday was wet./We had to wait." Full-color spreads are oversize and beautifully done in oil paints. Still, they scarcely contain Pullen's powerful images of a young boy working out his dream of flying. The boy's head is large, his face is expressive, and he bears an unmistakable resemblance to his dad. The final spread—father and son together in the Radio Flyer, their eyes closed, their arms outstretched, their bodies tilted as if in flight—is take-your-breath-away wonderful. I got this for my pastor. He is always talking about a little red wagon he had as a child. Two years ago I gave him a small red wagon. He has books in it. It is just big enough to place on his desk. I though the pictures are beautifully done. I am a retired school teacher who taught first and second grade. I know my kids would have loved this.
Boring story,(too little, too late) awesome illustrations....encourages imagination however for STEM, Boy Scouts, DIY-ears and must have a red wagon!
Perfect for kids who do not know how to read.... great graphics
The illustrations in this book are outrageously wonderful.
Purchased for my grandson for his first birthday along with a radio flyer wagon. He loved the wagon and I'm sure he'll love the book when he's a little older. I loved the book! Very short and sweet, with really cool illustrations, and a story that could surely have been conjured up in a child's imaginative mind.
Purchase for the illustrations. The story is thin and needs to be filled with the kids imagination and studying the pics.
I love the book, but my 3 year old great grandson not sooo much. When he gets older he will enjoy the book. The book was his Christmas present and the wagon was his birthday present which was 2 days later.
1 yr olds love it. And 2, 3, 4 do to. Parents love it, easy on the back, light weight, long handle folds under, easy rolling. Watch for coupons. ToysRUS was best when we bought plus no shipping.
