I have mixed feelings about this book. It's great for beginners, with step-by-step instructions. It doesn't confuse the beginner by covering advanced topics. However, it would be helpful to cover more on the topic of strings.After you read this book you'll probably want to get a book that goes into more detail on the material covered here.The greatest help for me was the chapter on databases. Most books on VB.NET tell you about the structure of databases, etc., but none that I have read so far tell you how to actually create one in your application. This book shows you step-by-step, in plain English.In summary, the book is great for those just getting into VB.NET and for those who want to know how to create and incorporate a database into their application.

Just starting out with programing - there is a lot to these simple, easy to read books. Liked it so much , I checked out PYTHON. Well organized.

Dr. James L. Meriam has contributed to the field of engineering mechanics as one of the premier engineering educators during the second half of the twentieth century. Dr. Meriam earned his B.E., M. He retired in 1990. Professor Meriam always placed great emphasis on teaching, and this trait was recognized by his students wherever he taught. At Berkeley in 1963, he was the first recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award of Tau Beta Pi, given primarily for excellence in teaching. In 1978, he received the Distinguished Educator Award for Outstanding Service to Engineering Mechanics Education from the American Society for Engineering Education, and in 1992 was the Society's recipient of the Benjamin Garver Lamme Award, which is ASEE's highest annual national award. Dr. L. G. Kraige, coauthor of the Engineering Mechanics series since the early 1980s, has also made significant contributions to mechanics education. Dr. Kraige earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Virginia, principally in aerospace engineering, and he currently serves as Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In addition to his widely recognized research and publications in the field of spacecraft dynamics. Professor Kraige has devoted his attention to the teaching of mechanics at both introductory and advanced levels. His outstanding teaching has been widely recognized and has earned him teaching awards at the departmental, college, university, state, regional, and national levels.

Excellent textbook. I also have their Engineering Mechanics: Statics and I love the way they have this series set up. Passages are relatively easy to read and have a few good sample problems for each section.I also love that all the answers to every problem are included. That way when you finish a problem you can have immediate feedback to whether you did the problem correctly or need to review your work for errors. Much better method for learning then waiting over a week to get homework back and then learning you made a mistake and no longer have the problem fresh in your mind.Because of the above fact I recommend this series for use in the classroom if any teaching faculty are reading. And let me clarify. It has the answers, not a solution so if students are just making up work to match the answers you will be able to tell. Having the answer only helps aid the learning not help them cheat on their homeworkIf you are buying a textbook just as a reference this is good as well because once again you can see if you practice a problem whether or not you made a mistake and can learn from it before applying it to your work.

This book appears to have decent problems to solve + a little bit of fore-way into the doing the problems with text but there are no solutions to the problems at the back of the book, you have to rely on just answers and you have no way to understand problems you can't figure out. I couldn't even find a solution manual as a separate book, though there definitely should be the answers included online somewhere or inside the main book with purchase anyway.

Wording isn’t the best and the examples are not throrough and do multiple steps per line plus simplifying. Was not much more help than my professor to be honest

My daughter is a huge fan of this series!!! I Know A Lot is another big hit by this author/illustrator duo. The storyline is simple, supportive, encouraging, and fun. The writing has a nice cadence so it is a fun read for those reading aloud to smaller children. There are not too many words on each page which I think is great for infants and toddlers who are eager page turners. The language offers a great balance of a pleasing rhythm, interesting concepts, and words on the simpler side to allow early readers to practice their new skills. The illustrations are esthetically pleasing and boldly interesting... suitable for newborns to adults. I Know A Lot is a great addition to the Empowerment Series as well as being a great book on its own.

My just-turned-3 boy loves this book. He likes to "read" the book himself since he now knows it by heart--the ultimate demonstration of how he knows "a lot", haha. The illustrations are very cute and colorful, but simple. This is a big hit for the toddler and early preschooler who thinks they know everything!

Fantastic book for toddlers. I ADORE the illustrations. They are simple and bold and little ones can easily follow along. Reading this to the children in my preschool is a joy. Even the children who are not prone to pay attention to books for long are engaged with this book and others in the series. Start reading to your children young and use books like these. Little ones are drawn to the illustrations and the story is simple and short. Perfect!

We have another book in this series and we live this one just as much! Love the pictures and the empowering message. My daughter picks this book almost every night as our bedtime book

My two year old thoroughly enjoys this book again and again. It has vibrant colors and easy to understand concepts (light vs. heavy, day vs night, etc.). I love that this series is inclusive: POC as main focal points rather than just sprinkled in the background, and allows different children to see themselves in books.

You will want all of these little books. I work with Birth to 4 yo children....they love these books.

Great illustrations, empowering message, and a perfect addition to any toddler's bookshelf. I love to buy books from the Empowerment Series for birthday presents. Can't go wrong with these positive messages.

I'm still not sure why it's taken me so long to pick up this series, but I'm hooked now, so I'm having fun playing catch up ;)Blood & Thunder was a roller coaster. Dex and Sloane were growing closer, but there was still some emotional distance between them. Sloane's past was a big obstacle. He thought that his secrets would destroy everything, including his relationship with Dex. Distancing himself wasn't working. He still had no idea exactly how tenacious, stubborn and loyal Dex really was. He understood a lot more than Sloane gave him credit for.As intense as what was going on between Sloane and Dex, the side characters in Blood & Thunder had a lot going on themselves. I loved getting glimpses into the other members of Team Destructive Delta.Sloane and Dex still have a lot to work through and it looks like Rack & Ruin will continue their story... and the drama...

Here's the thing-- this series has its problems, some of which are occasionally distracting. Sometimes the dialogue doesn't flow. Sometimes we get told things we probably should have been shown, like emotional reactions. Sometimes the world building isn't fully clear, like the relationship between the human and their Therian form and how they act in Therian form (the licking, for example, just seems unlikely if the human side isn't pretty heavily subverted), or how it's possible that literally almost every character in the series is gay or bi (statistically this just isn't likely, and it would be great if maybe just a one line explanation somewhere about Therians being more likely than the general population to fit those orientations or maybe the people who are accepting of Therians and thus work at Thirds are partially more tolerant because of their own backgrounds was included), or some of the details about how Thirds itself really fits, because eventually all these things just become a bit much, and they can be problematic taken all at once when no explanations really get offered. It strains the credulity when you're already immersed in a world where shapeshifters exist and the story doesn't have those details to ground the reader, like how exactly the shapeshifting works on the person shifting beyond being physically painful or when almost every character you're following is trapped in a similar secret romance/crush/thing. Sometimes the characters don't fully seem like they're, well, in character, often at these telling emotional moments. It seems like another voice (the storyteller) steps in and speaks through the characters to give readers the updates, if that makes sense.All that said, though, I read all three books in a week or two, because they were different and a lot of fun, enough fun that it carried the flaws. Dex brought several laugh out loud moments, and I liked a lot of the family and team dynamics that were included. I'll read book four.

This is the second book in a M/M romance series that features smexytimes, terrorists, sexy men, burgeoning relationships, bombs, ex-boyfriends, vengeance, shifters and karaoke music.As much as the first book in this series is about Dex winning over Sloane, I think BLOOD AND THUNDER is a lot about Sloane learning to love again. And recognizing that the feelings he has toward Dex are, in fact, love.Sloane Brodie is a First Gen jaguar Therian. Life has not been easy. His first shift, at age eleven, was so catastrophic he ended up institutionalized. His only friend from those years is Ash, the lion Therian and general blowhard on Destructive Delta squad. They are close, and Ash has no problems giving Sloane his unfiltered opinion, mainly because Ash only comes unfiltered. In this book we get to see many new burgeoning relationships, and understand the inner workings of this select group of law enforcement agents.Potential couples to be eyeing: naturally Calvin and his tiger Therian partner, Hobbs. (I KNOW! The jokes are merciless, seriously.) But, there's also some really, really touchy-feely things happening between Ash--who is straight--and Dex's step-brother Cael, the sweet and tender cheetah Therian. All of this will likely bear fruit down the pike, but I can't help wonder who'll do the chasing...As for the plot, the THIRDS teams are being led on a merry chase for the terrorist organization, Order of Andrasteia, who longs to see Therians exterminated, if possible. Hunting down the leader is, well, daunting. He is a former Human Police a force detective, and doesn't make a whole lotta planning errors. In fact, this dude's set on hurting Sloane most heinously--by ripping Dex away, and letting Sloane suffer the grief of losing another lover.In the meantime, relationships are getting complicated. Dex only wants Sloane, but can he continue with everything on the down-low? What about when Dex's ex-boyfriend stumbles onto the scene? And how can Sloane keep Dex to himself when his own Delta team--even the lesbians--would pick the suave and quirky Dex for a one-nighter? (Poor Ash, he really got nailed in that little game!)The tension is super high throughout. Sloane has lots of secrets about his recruitment to THIRDS that he wants to remain secret, but the Order seems fixed on revealing all it can to discredit THIRDS and the Therians, in general. There are some great tender moments, and some that are plain-out hot. While this is a continuing series, there is a complete resolution to the main plot arc. Still you kinda gotta read the series in order. Not that I'm complaining. I'm a Dex-Girl; I gotta see this one through.
