After attending Dublin University, he spent ten years as an Irish civil servant, trying to keep up his writing in his free time. By 1871, he had become the drama critic for the Dublin Mail and had gained experience as a newspaper editor, reporter, and short story writer. In 1878 he became the personal assistant to Sir Henry Irving, the foremost Shakespearean actor of his day, accompanying him on tours and managing Irving’s theater. After Irving’s death in 1905, Stoker worked on the literary staff of the London Telegraph. Dracula, his most famous work, was published in 1897. Throughout his life, Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was plagued by ill health, which interrupted his formal education at Edinburgh University. Pursuing the life of a bohemian during his twenties and thirties, he traveled around Europe and formed the basis of his first two books, An Inland Journey (1878) and Travels with a Donkey (1879). The font is very small and unappealing to want to read.

I was looking for a copy of Jekyii & Hyde after seeing the stage musical and was pleasantly surprised to find it packaged with Frankenstein and Dracula, which I had never read. It was great to get all 3 in one book.

A must read at least once in life! All three of the novels are in the canon of Gothic and dark literature; they are not always perfectly written, but that does not diminish their appeal in any way! Enjoyed rereading them!

For this value, this book is absolutely amazing. Not too bulky, maybe the size of an average hand (thumb to pink) in width, it is a great value with good pages and binding.These three horror stories speak for themselves, but put back to back like this is truly a treat.Frankenstein, to begin with, is the original Frankenstein before the movies got to him. A story of revenge and betrayal, with many other themes of feminism and creationism intertwined.Dracula, a monster that needs no introduction is a great continuation to this monster fest as is Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hide. Definitely worth the buy.

I loved this triple classic.I was looking for the originals of Frank and Drac and found this. Dr Jeckyll was a bonus.I loved all 3. My wife loved it too. We watched some Frankenstein 'original' on TV and compared notes. Same with Dracula.Most interesting to see the evolution of the original characters to what we have today. Most folk do not know the real stories.Figure a month to get through them all.

I will admit that while I am not a huge fan of Shakespeare, mostly for the language, I did really enjoy this book. By far one of my favorite books by him, and also one that I felt was ACTUALLY humorous, compared to some of the other comedies. It was definitely sexist, but I think that it kind of expected based on the time it was written. I would suggest to anyone looking for an easier Shakespeare read or one to introduce them into his works.

I dared to attempt this play with my upper-intermediate EFL students, and it went down very well! I don't think it would have been possible without this particular version, as we mostly read together the modern version, cutting to the original text at various moments of the play. It was nice to have the students actually understand and laugh at appropriate moments instead of blankly continuing to read without comprehending. Having the original text to one side means they can go back at their leisure and read it with more understanding. I recommend this version for beginners of Shakespeare and for non-native speakers of English.

I love Shakespeare. I love Shrew. This version is not only badly formatted, it is missing all of Act II (my favorite part) but also Act III scene I. Also, the "illustrations" are just weird. What on earth does a formal portrait of George Washington have to do with anything?

I bought this for my classroom to help the students who are struggling with the play. The side-by-side function allows them to look from the original line to a "translated line" so that they can understand and become more familiar with the language (making it easier as they go along/future plays).

Shakespeare is amazing, and books that give you the modern version with the original are valuable. However, buy the print version. The kindle version promises that you can click on a character name in the original to transfer to the same place in modern version and vice versa, but it doesn't work. You can click and click and click and still be stuck wear you are. Not only that, but it's nearly impossible to find that same place in the other version. Like I said, go with the printed book for this feature. I bought the No Fear Shakespeare printed version and love it.

As to the edition: the formatting works well for me. Numbering is done in line like my bible and references well cross linked into their own section rather than footnoted. Not the best if you intend to have your device read via TTS but quite amicable to reading on screen. There is also much historical supplements/ editorial follow on (half the length) and a very deep reference to Shakespeare's English. I can't think of anything more to ask off the book.With regard to the story: Funny :-). Can't say that I agree with the method of taming but admit, a shrew is a shrew and a comedy is a comedy. That's how I chose to view it.

It's Shakespeare. I'm not going to dare review his work. The extras are a nice touch with editorials and historical references which helps in the reading especially if you are not used to old English. A classic worth having as a book rather than an electronic version.

I really haven't used this Edition. I actually found it inconvenient to carry around each individual play in a separate book. Personally, I was very surprised about this. I think this may be because sometimes my class only spends one class session on some of the plays. We are reading every comedy and every history. :-)

Good book. Small to be carried on my pocket, but useful for the standard day by day questions.

Great little book. I don't mind the lack of color since all of the programming books I own are in black and white anyway. The size of the book itself is pretty charming and it's got some useful little tidbits. I haven't gone through the whole thing yet but so far i'm happy I got this. I know it'll be useful.

This comment is not about the technical context but about the visual text presentation of the book. Unlike the previous version covering Java 8, this version has removed all color coding of text. All texts--keywords, values, operators, etc.--are in black ink. For me, the colored text in the previous version made it easier to read. As a reference book, it should have kept the color scheme in the previous book that served to distinguish keywords, values, operators, explanations. I recommend getting the Java 8 book if you don't need the Java 9. The Java 9 version reuses the Java 8 content and adds only a few more pages related to version 9. As a "reference" book for quick lookup, this version 9 pocket book is disappointing. Skip this book and save your money.

I must start this review by admitting I am an avid fan of Michael Perry, and have read and enjoyed all of his books. This, his latest, has not disappointed me. His choice of words and use of language is exceptional. His writing is first of all funny, but it is also poetic, insightful, and even sad at times. He expresses himself so clearly that the reader can personally experience the moment he is talking about. This book of essays is excellent. Once again, thank you Michael Perry!

A Michael Perry read is always a good read...and these essay collections are no exception. Quick-witted, good-natured...the real deal...sprinkle in some heartfelt here and there, and there you go!Mike is in a class of his own...he can take a simple situation and expand on it to make the reader chuckle or ruminate...in addition, first-class verbal skills and prose are not seen very often in this day and age.How about his ideas on what to do with a mole infestation on his acreage? Winter undertakings in Wisconsin? Traffic tickets? Revisiting Tom? Resurrecting Grandpa’s voice? So many...Thanks Mike.

I considered giving 5 stars, but Mr. Perry's work improves with each collection or new book. Somehow his writing becomes more alive each time because of how naturally he weaves words into sentences and sentences into paragraphs that easily mesh into the hopes, dreams, and fears we all carry inside. Now that I am done with this book I once again feel that I am a bit better for discovering Michael Perry as I am reminded to cherish what I have, whether good or bad because life does not go on forever and to be grateful for successes and even mistakes as we learn from falling down if we get back up again.

Roughneck Grace: Farmer Yoga, Creeping by Michael Perry is a very entertaining read, as is all the Michael Perry books that I have read. They are always good for a laugh and also at times empathy for some of the people and situations he writes about.

I heard Michael Perry do a reading at a book fair in Tucson recently, and he was hilarious and charming and humble. His books are like that too--fairly simple short essays about his family and friends in the small Wisconsin town where he grew up. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and will be reading more of his books.

Once again, Michael Perry amazes me with his wisdom. Couched in an "ah-shucks, who me" lingo, he imparts more meaning in his observations than most authors can only dream of. Amazing!

Fun book to read. Really appreciate he authors ssense of humor. I always look forward to reading his books.
