Always in search of wonderful scents (whether in perfume, food or wine), I am now much prouder of my nose because of the perfume I fell in love with before discovering this wonderful book. Turin calls it "the richest perfume in existence" -- Amouage Gold. Even Amouage's effort to top it in their new "Attar" doesn't dull Gold's shine. I've spent happy hours at leisure with Turin's eloquent descriptions and sampled several of his 100 that I hadn't tried. Each left me with greater respect for him. If he isn't the greatest "nose" in the world of perfume, I can't imagine who is. He's added to my list of impossible dreams--seeing every place on earth, reading all books ever written, and on my perfume rack having all of his 100.

This book was very disappointing. It just contains the 5 star perfumes from Turin and Sanchez's Perfumes: The Guide A-Z. Same reviews, same text. About 20% is added text and updates. BIG waste of money. Just get The Guide, it's more entertaining!

Let me start off by saying that I am a HUGE fan of the Perfumes: A-Z guide by the same authors. I own both of these, and I'm glad I do. This is the portable, can't miss version of the big guy. It's going to come with me to every perfume counter I visit until I've smelled all 96 of these that are still in production.If you know someone who's interested in perfume, but not totally sure about it, this would be a great starter book. It presents 96 best-of-the-best perfumes with (approx. 1 page) reviews of each. The book also references price ($-$$$$) and a two word description of the perfume (e.g., huge floral, classic oriental) which I find to be extremely helpful, since sometimes I just want to cut to the chase and know what's so great about the perfume.If you're a perfume fan and don't own either book yet, I'd go with the A-Z guide. It's slightly outdated (2007, I think?), but you have all the fun of being able to look up the perfumes that you love and see how Luca and Tania described them.Now for the confusing part: The original reviews for these perfumes are from the A-Z guide (published a few years ago). However, since then, there have been changes to some of these 5-star perfume formulas. Luca and Tania include updates to their reviews, which is great. Unfortunately, some of these formulas no longer appear to be 5-star formulas. I suppose this is just the nature of the perfume world, but I would have preferred to see only a new review written on the new formula (rather than the old reviews + an update). I just found it a little confusing (thus the one star reduction in my review!).Now excuse me, I've got to get back to reading about perfume...

Bought this LITTLE BOOK OF PERFUMES for myself recently. I find myself searching for a few new really great scents. Very well written. One of the first tips I read was regarding a website called LUCKY SCENTS. I purchased a sample pack of scents for a very reasonable price. Have been trying a new one every day. Recommend this book to any perfume lover or just if you're looking to increase your knowledge.

This is a brief version of the massive perfume guide by the same authors. Here they are presenting and evaluating only the five stars fragrances, and at the end listing the best of the best in different categories. If you already have the Perfume Guide, don't buy this one, it contains nothing new. If you want to find out which are the true masterpieces of the olfactory art, and not resd reviews of the many less accomplish fragrances, then this is the book for you.

I am a perfume lover and this book got me started on really enjoying and understanding perfumes. It is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn a bit about the art of perfumery or just to know what they are buying in the store before they plop down a lot of money for a fragrance. Definitely recommended.

I checked out Perfumes A-Z by same authors from library. Ended up starring or scanning all of the 5 stars to remember them. Then I found out this book contains only the 5 stars. I still recommend checking out Perfumes A-Z, but for reference, this book is great.

As anyone who has rolled has probably experienced, who you play with and how they roll probably influences the feel of the game just as much as the system, if not more. You can see that in the other reviews here: one says Trail of Cthulhu is very easy to run for beginners, another says it requires so much work for the players that they should each have their own copy of the book, or at least have read it.All I can do is report how it plays at my table, and the answer there is "very smoothly". I now prefer this to Call of Cthulhu for several reasons: making up characters is faster, especially for new players; there's less stuff on the character sheet for players to keep track of; there's less mechanical stuff for the Keeper to keep track of; and the gradual erosion of ability pools over the course of a session means that pretty much every session ends in panic and desperation. That's a nice parallel with SAN loss, and it really makes the game feel more like a Lovecraft story in actual play.As far as how hard this is for players: I made up my own character sheets and wrote right on the page "These are for finding clues" next to the Investigative Skills heading, and "These are for spending to improve die rolls" next to the General Skills heading. No-one has had any problem picking that up. In fact, the system gets out of the way of gameplay more than just about any other that I have run.Beyond the system, the book is both a gorgeous physical object and chock-full of interesting ideas, about the Mythos and its entities and about how to run atmospheric games. Even if you end up not running this system, the book is still a gold mine of inspiration. But do give the system a chance--it plays easier than it reads, and you can run an awful lot of story on a couple of simple game mechanics.

As an old gamer I have to say I was hesitant to try this “other call of Cthulhu” take on table top.I only have good words to Chaosium and his original work since I began to play in the 90s I enjoyed every night of tension and doom. I went through Advance DnD , Vampire the Masquerade, Mage, 3.0 and others but I always return to the cyclopean ruins, hopeless runs and total madness. I learn to love Call of Cthulhu and forgive its annoyances, and I still do.But I have to admit, I like what’s Pelgrane Press did with the gunshoe system, it’s simple and clever. And now I love it too.Trial of Cthulhu is now my favorite take on Lovecraft horror and I praise the people involved in this project, I actually bought some of their modules and the writing is fantastic.The book itself has a layout that evokes the old newspapers and the pictures are well done. The take on the mythos are particularly exiting and hands down the best part of this book, I was a little confused with some of the rules and only got it right after a couple of sessions but after that it were smooth and as said before very clever. As game Trial of Cthulhu is awesome in its own right.My copy of the book came not pristine, it has a little crack bottom in the spine but in general I’m very please with my purchase.

This is both my favorite iteration of the Gumshoe System, as well as my favorite version of any Cthulhu RPG.The mechanics are light enough they never get in the way of the story (or the gaming). PCs have a high level of competence, never failing at something that supposed to be their area of expertise, yet can still be easily devoured or driven mad by various eldritch abominations. It's not diceless, but the dice come out only when something really dangerous is afoot. It really captures the feel of the source material quite well.The GM's section on the Great Old Ones and Elder Gods is hands-down the best Cthulhu brainstorming I've ever seen in print. Too many other gaming products have focused on the game stats of Cthulhu and his ilk; Trail of Cthulhu understands that what's interesting is the cosmic truths, the symbolism and metaphor, not how many bullets Nyarlethotep can soak up before he runs out of hit points. Fans of Cthulhu will be blown away by this game's GMing advice.For fans of Gumshoe, this is also a treat, regardless of what you think of Lovecraft. Trail of Cthulhu does a great job of porting Gumshoe to a less-CSI setting. It has a simplified skill list that's less crime-scene oriented than Esoterrorists, yet not as stripped down or oversimplified as Fear Itself. Optional "Pulp" and "Purist" rules allow you to customize the system to whatever style of game you prefer to run. Breaking Stability out into two stats (Stability and Sanity) allows for greater control (and variation) of player's decent into madness, and NPC Pillars of Sanity and Sources of Stability give you ways to pull them back from the brink. There's tons of useful stuff here for GMs to steal for their own campaigns.Don't miss the "Idiosyncratic Magic" rules hidden away on pgs 212-213. Though brief, they are the usable framework for a magic system that's playable yet retains a sense that it is creepy and supernatural... as magic should be.

I picked up Trail of Cthulhu because my normal game group decided to switch tracks from our usual Pathfinder campaigns to something Cthulhu-based. While the original Call of Cthulhu role playing system is decent, I like the rules and structure of Trail of Cthulhu, based on the Gumshoe detective system. This is a great "gateway" Role Playing Game, which doesn't devalue it for veteran RPG players. It just has a nice, easy-to-follow rule system that comes with a 1930's flair but is also easily adaptable to modern day playing. Our group plays modern style and uses the area we live in as a story backdrop, which makes it a lot of fun.The artwork and attention to detail are really well done, and help set the tone for the mind-bending horror genre that Cthulhu is.The book's publisher has a free online character builder linked through their web site, which isn't necessary but definitely helps to understand how character building works in this system.

This small book is true to the spirit of St. Benedict and ll he hoped for the spirituality of those monks that followed his Rule.

It brings the rule of St Benedict into modern life, and it helps to reinterpret the rule for use today. It is meant for eveyone interested in living out the spiritual life, not just monastics. It is fairly short and very easy to read.

This book makes me want to know even more about the Benedictine rule.

While the spirituality of St. Benedict does not really resonate with me, I appreicated reading it to learn and understand more about the history of spirituality over the centuries. It is important to see the evolution of even spirituality to more fully appreciate what brought us to where we are today.

Am still reading it. Finding his treatment of often difficult Benedictine topics to be clear and easier to grasp and put into practice than other similar works I have read. It's working for me.

Like nearly everyone else I've known who has been raised as an Evangelical Christian in America, for most of my life I've known almost nothing about St. Benedict, and many of us may feel like there's not much reason to invest any of our highly valued time in changing that. Thanks to Spirituality for Everyday Living by Brian C. Taylor, both aspects of that can change.Much of our unfamiliarity with Benedict is due to the fact that he wrote his Rule for 6th century monks, and I have yet to go to church with many people whose lives resemble those of 6th century monks in any significant ways. So it's very helpful to have the ancient Rule of St. Benedict interpreted and adapted for us by Taylor, an Episcopal priest of our own day. He does a good job of showing how Benedict's guidance, which has proven reliable to so many for so long, can be followed by people who desire to arrange their lives around a dedicated pursuit of God yet who live in the context of family and work responsibilities.Taylor does a remarkably effective job of communicating this in only 70 pages (including the Preface, Introduction, and Appendix!). The three short chapters of the book are arranged around different characteristics of the monastic life prescribed by Benedict: Chapter 1 describes the monk's "commitment to life": stability, conversatio (repentance), and obedience; Chapter 2 is the monk's "life in balance": prayer, study and work; Chapter 3 is the monk's "self in relationship": with God, others, and things.Each chapter contains Taylor's summary and interpretation of the applicable sections of Benedict's Rule, as well as his own personal examples and suggestions on how people today can apply Benedict's guidance in life outside of the monastery.I believe that one of the greatest need for Christians today is to have teachers who are effective at reconnecting us with the riches of the voices and guidance available to us from the past. St. Benedict is someone whom we will benefit from knowing and having as a teacher, and Taylor's book is a valuable resource for introducing him to today's Christians.

I just finished this book last night, and I found it to be very inspiring, and insightful. The author is an episcopalian priest, married with family. He really brings an interesting insight to the Rule of Benedict coming from someone who is a pastor by profession and a parent. I found the book to be a concise quick read, and the page layout was just fine. For Oblates or those wishing to become Oblates add this book to your reading list. The author being someone who is married with children lays out simple ways for the laity to incorporate the Rule of Benedict in everyday life. I am Catholic and I did appreciate the neutrality of this book. I believe this book serves well as an excellent read for Benedictines of the Catholic or Anglican tradition.Pax.

As a college student this book has been extremely helpful for my all my classes. My major involves alot of writing. Most books that help you to write essays are full of vocabulary that makes it difficult to understand, however this book explains you every step like if you had a tutor infront of you explaining in simple steps. Excellent book I really recommend.

I am a college student who writes a lot for classes. Doing okay, I wanted to try and better understand how to approach writing. This book covers a lot of different elements that are important, and tries to persuade the reader to format essays in a certain way. I never outlined before writing, but this book has changed my mind. While not integrating every aspect, I certainly appreciate some ideas that this author has. It is purchasable and a worthwhile read.

You’ll be a BETTER writer!!This book is really a “no-nonsense plan” to write a well thought out essay. It is easy to follow and gives great advice and tips on what to do for an organized paper. Dr. Neumann’s book helps you become a good writer and a better one if you thought you were already. Excellent book!! As a college student, you sometimes become overwhelmed with all the massive assignments, especially writing essays. I believe the majority of us students begin with ideas but dont know how to organize it and elaborate on those ideas. This book helped a TON! Highly recommend!!!

I really liked this book as it helped me write a research paper I had to turn in. It was extremely useful as I did not before know the format or guidelines on how to write a proper paper. It is easy to read and has many many examples.

Your book has great tips in how to start an essay, how it should be carried out, and it has broken our traditional way of writing. I would recomend this book to others who have trouble in writing an essay.

The book served as a useful tool in writing essays. It covers the recommended steps/processes when developing your writings. I loved that it gives an abundance of examples and clear explanations. The text is easily applicable to building your skills and learning how to properly structure your essays! I strongly suggestion any writer to purchase this book!

I strongly recommend this book if you are looking to enhance your writing techniques. This book was a great resource for me to use in my college career! My writing had developed tremendously now that I have a better understanding on how to write proper essays.
