I got it this book (because the KAPLAN one from my local library had all the practice tests and questions filled out - so couldn't challenge me at all)I am happy with the actual information presented (though the KAPLAN one is definitely more professional and better prepares you for the actual test)The formatting and layout of this is extremely basic and poorly done. (kinda like the whole book was made in Word)I also found many mistakes in it (some of which will affect your practice test score, some of which is just outright *wrong* information)Overall, the information is valuable and helpful, but the book itself, not so much. If you want a proper test guide, go for the KAPLAN book.

This book is wonderful, I definitely suggest purchasing it if you are planning on taking the TASC test.

This book prepared me for the tasc exam. If read carefully it is a great way to receive a passing score.

It is good

I think the only thing I can point out that I would like better, would be color photos and of course, that is not necessary to learn and it would cost more. I have been working with my niece helping her study for her High School Equivancy Exam. She is having a very hard time with Algebra & Functions, and I am having a hard time trying to explain it to her (probably because I sucked at it myself). I have not checked out the rest of the study guide yet but we spent only two days on these two sections. She took the practice test and got 15% correct, then we went problem by problem going over the equation, the answer, and the explanation to the answer. Honestly, the explanations written in the study guide make it so easy to understand that I think that was the key to learning the material. I even got a better understanding. The explanations are short and strong. After retaking the practice exam, she raised her score 70% higher. How awesome is that. Here is the kicker - she then took a practice exam from a different study guide that she got 10% correct and raised her score on that test 70%. With that said, we've only tackled these subjects. I am excited to keep teaching her other subjects through this study guide.

I have been using this for 2 weeks to test students I am tutoring to pass their TASC test. The students were able to get through concepts that were giving them problems and passed the test first time.This is an important part of my classroom.

This book has very detailed guidance for the TASC exam and useful notes on the exam content. It has not only practice questions and answers, but also extra explanation on answers to let the user have better understanding on how the answer chosen. Also I like the FREE test prep dvd option with this guide. This is would be a good self study guidance.

I bought the book to help my daughter pass her HSED, she used the book, doing the test at the end of each chapter and passed no problem in her first try without haveing to take any of the adult education classes

Love the movie. always kept an eye out for this title.that said, bright eyed anticipation, cause the cover and preview looked promising. After the first few pages, they promptly rolled back ... from boredom.art's average ... at times making the Goblin King look like one of the evil, ugly step sisters .... in drag. while the story is flatlined...with His father coming across as a dandy noble ... with mental issue and mother being another Sarah (I didn't like her as she comes across bland)I wouldn't get it if my local library had a copy for me to preview. While I'd like to know what happens in the nxt issue, I'm afraid of being disappointed again.

This is a perfect story for someone that needs more Labyrinth in their life. Jareth’s character gets more fleshed out for those interested in the mysterious king. A must have for any Labyrinth lover. Can’t wait for the second volume to be released.

About the Author

Gwen Cooper is the author of the novel Diary of a South Beach Party Girl. A Miami native, she spent five years working in nonprofit administration, marketing, and fundraising. She coordinated volunteer activities on behalf of organizations including Pet Rescue, the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, the Miami Rescue Mission, and His House Children’s Home, and initiated Reading Pen Pals, an elementary school-based literacy program in Miami’s Little Haiti. Gwen currently lives in Manhattan with her husband, Laurence.  She also lives with her three perfect cats–Scarlett, Vashti, and Homer--who aren’t impressed with any of it.

I have read this book 4 times since I bought it. If you are a cat person, it is a must have. If you aren't a cat person, you would still enjoy this book.

One of my favorite books I've read. I heard about it on "My Cat From Hell" where Gwen guest starred for an episode. I never heard of the book but, being an avid cat lover, I figured I wouldn't be disappointed.I was right. The only time I put this book down (reluctantly) was for work.Gwen knows how to pull your heart strings. Being an owner of a beautiful baby abandoned as a kitten who patiently waited two years in the shelter for me to take her home, I cried so many tears of fear and joy that I started using a tissue for my bookmark. Read from April 01 to 06, 2015OMG! I am in love with Homer! This cat Gwen rescued from her vet is the most touching stories I have read in a while. He was brought in by some people at around 3 weeks with messed up eyes. They said they found him and wanted him euthanized. Well the vet wasn't having any of that, she removed his eyes and when no one wanted him, her last resort was to ask Gwen who already had two cats and couldn't afford another one at the time. She couldn't help herself and took him!The stories about Homer learning the lay of his land in the house is amazing! He just had a strong will to live and discover things. You just have to read the book to get the full effect!I have to say my favorite part of the book is with the burglar. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to crack a rib! Who ever heard of a blind attack cat! Well that burglar was stunned to say the least. I can not believe how funny that scene was, I would like to write it out here but I will save it so you can buy the book :)I am going to add a SPOILER!!!!!! IT'S A PART FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK!!!**SPOILER***TAKEN FROM THE BOOK*When I walked in with my date, Homer ran to greet me at the door. And there, hanging from his mouth, was a tampon. The whiteness of it stood out against his black fur in vivid, mortifying relief. He scampered around in gleeful triumph for a moment, then promptly ran over and sat expectantly on his haunches in front of me, tampon clutched in between his jaws like a dog with a rawhide bone.My date looked taken aback, to say the least, "What the....is that a.." He stammered for a moment, before finally managing, "Did something happen to your cat?"I hunkered down on my heels, and Homer happily climbed into my lap, dropping the purloined tampon at my feet. "He's fine," I answered. One of the best books I have ever read! I highly recommend it to anyone. Not just cat lovers, or pet owners. I enjoyed it so much, I searched for a bought Gwen Cooper's other books as well. Homer's Odyssey is a great book. His story is inspirational. In fact, I have since adopted a blind cat that lost her eyes due to head trauma on the streets of Thailand. She was older then Homer so she still remembers having sight and isn't quite as fearless as he was. But she is an amazing cat and I see a lot of what Gwen talks about in Homer's Odyssey when I watch my Coconut.

If you love cats you will love Homer and this book!What a wonderful real-life story of a woman, who despite owning two cats and living in an apartment, adopts a blind kitten. But he's not just blind, he has no eyes, as his eyes were removed when he was just a very young kitten. But the story of the travails and triumphs of cute little Homer will melt your heart! You'll read how he managed to map out his home in three dimensions using his senses of hearing, touch, smell, and perhaps a sixth sense of knowing all. His sixth sense allow him to run around and jump up on various furnishings without bumping into walls or otherwise hurting himself. You'll also read how Homer and his two cat friends were trapped in their apartment for days because their building was in the danger zone after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. (Without giving away the story, they came through without a scratch due to the derring-do of Homer's human mom.)If you love cats and the people who love them you will really enjoy reading Homer's story.

It has been translated into over 20 languages, inspired many people across the globe to adopt and save thousands of animals who have different needs, especially blind.My house is full with 4 black cats, and 2 small black dogs, but when a mostly blind, black cat needed a home, there was no hesitation on my part. There is an alphabetical index that implies that it lists all pages where patterns with a particular manufacturer's trademark are located. Unfortunately, this index is not very complete, so it is frequently necessary to look through MANY pages with related brands in order to identify a particular pattern. This is the biggest shortfall of this reference book. Also, some patterns appear more than once, under multiple manufacturers (due to the consolidation of the silverware industry), but other patterns that were made by multiple manufactuers do not appear under each manufacturer. These incomplete multiple listings aren't necessary, but if they remain the pages should be cross-referenced to each.

This is simply the best reference for silverplated flatware identification. I find value guides to be worthless no matter what the product is. If you are looking for present values, go to eBay. If you are looking to identify silverplated flatware by manufacturer or by name (or by illustrated picture), there simply isn't a better tool.

My husband and I make jewelry from vintage silverware. This book has proved to be very easy to use, and yields up the answers I seek about 95% of the time. For a few pieces of flatware we come across, I still have to resort to internet searches. But, overall, I am pleased and very glad I own this. The drawings are very detailed. Great book to own if you just wish to look up patterns.

If you are a collector and/or a dealer in silver plated flatware you simply have to have this book. Even with the internet you could spend literally hours trying to identify a piece and often fail. With this guide you can identify almost any American manufactured silverplated flatware within a few minutes, and have confidence you are correct. And, though the publisher/author may not like it known, you don't need to update this. The values are pretty meaningless but the identification remains the same. Once you have identified the piece/pattern then you go to the internet if you want to see values. Buy it. Use it.

I had been looking for this older edition and found this for a reasonable price in like-new condition. I don't think it had ever been off the shelf. It was perfect for my needs. I received it sooner than I expected, a bonus plus for me!

This is a fabulous resource for pattern identification of Silverplate flatware. I use this book with her sterling flatware ID and value book as well. I actually bought both these books because I wore my last ones out! True!

Mr. Quek received his B. Eng. (Hon.) in mechanical engineering from the National University of Singapore in 1999. He did an industrial attachment in the then aeronautics laboratory of DSO National Laboratories, Singapore, gaining much experience in using the finite element method in areas of structural dynamics. He also did research in the areas of wave propagation and infinite domains using the finite element method. In the course of his research, Mr Quek had gained tremendous experience in the applications of the finite element method, especially in using commercially available software like Abaqus. Currently, he is doing research in the field of numerical simulation of quantum dot nanostructures, which will lead to a dissertation for his doctorate degree. To date, he had authored two international journal papers. His research interests include Computational Mechanics, Nano-scale Computation, Vibration and Wave Propagation in Structures and Numerical Analysis.Dr. Liu received his PhD from Tohoku University, Japan in 1991. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Northwestern University, U.S.A. He is currently the Director of the Centre for Advanced Computations in Engineering Science (ACES), National University of Singapore. He is also an Associate Professor atthe Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore. He authored more than 200 technical publications including two books and 130 international journal papers. Implausible plot. Cardboard characters. Supposedly set in Grand Cayman, but the geography in the book doesn't match that of the actual island. There's a hair-breadth escape in every chapter, by unbelievable means sure to elicit groans and eye-rolling. Better stick with Jack Reacher or Bob Lee Swagger if you want real action/thriller writing.Given the fact that this is a self-published book (no price, publisher, bar code, etc. to be found anywhere), one might expect a somewhat lesser level of writing style - but this book appears not to have been edited. Typos abound. In one sequence, our principals enter a convenience store with $500 worth of stolen travelers checques, and make a deal with the proprietor to sell them for 50 cents on the dollar. On the next page, they leave the store with $2500. I gave up on this one after 90 pages.

I liked the reviews but noticed there weren't a lot written by females and I'm not normally a big spy or what sounds a little like vicious action...but this was sooo good! It really grabbed and entertained me-to the point that I'm still thinking about the character even after I've finished the book. In fact, although I feel like I have to write this so others get the chance to read it, I really want to start the next book by him I that I just bought. Quick and short-this story is the kind that takes you away and totally entertains. I highly recommend you get this book. It's really enthralling! :)HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! :)

Sometimes, when I'm after a quick read, I'll flip through some of the automatic Kindle suggestions, then browse through the 1 and 2 star reviews, checking out what people didn't like. Then I start wondering if it could really be as bad as readers are suggesting. The collection of low reviews for FLASH intimated that I had found a "winner".This thing reads like adolescent fiction, with inconsistency after inconsistency, none of which get in the way of the heroes dodging every bullet, breezing through every cunning plan their enemies throw at them, and having endless cash and resources to help in their own survival. Early on, despite having their memories wiped, they are completely familiar with the roads on the far side of an island that neither of them has ever set foot on. And so it goes.If you want something totally disposable for an international flight, or long train trip, you could do worse than FLASH... though not much worse.

What would you do if you lost your memory, total amnesia, a diabolical gap of years, and you realize slowly it will never come back. FLASH keeps the suspense going with just that premise. Two principle characters, male and female, gradually figure out they are part of a despicable plot to use a strange chemical to earn huge amounts of money by erasing the memory of targets specified by ruthless clients of a seemingly wealthy lawyer. At the same time they know instinctively that they are the good guys with responsibility to somehow end the plot. Tim Tigner is superb at making the plot wind around keeping the reader guessing till the very end. A great read and very hard to put down before finishing. Tim Tigner never ceases to amaze me. The plot lines to his stories are totally mind-blowing. There is a level of intellect and artistry that raises him above your average thriller writer. To paraphrase a line from this book: "Tim IS the sharpest knife in the drawer."In FLASH, Emmy and Troy just woke up on Grand Cayman Island sharing a parked car with a dead policeman and they are covered in blood. They each know their own names, but not each other. And their last memory is where they were seven years ago (Troy was a combat surgeon in Afghanistan, Emmy a grifter in L.A.). The characters are nothing more than stereotypes, there is nothing beneath the surface; and the plot is only advanced by totally nonplausible developments. I have cancer and thought this would be a great read for me to process my future with death and dying. However, I found it very hard to relate to the author. I admire her faith and that it gives her great strength and comfort, but it's not really my cup of tea. When you remove the religion aspect, the book doesn't quite stand on it's own. Perhaps that is because it she is so bound to her faith, which is good for her, but hard to related to.If you have a terminal illness and are not Christian, this book is not for you. If you are Christian and have or don't have a terminal illness, you'd really like this book.

Wow! There is something tremendously powerful and refreshing about Kate Bowler's writing. She doesn't pretend that life is anything but complicated and messy, and she tells her story in a way that helps all of us see ourselves in it. The book is profound in its wisdom but also relatable and hilarious...I found myself often laughing and crying on the same page. As a working mom with young kids, I am especially grateful for Kate's honesty about parenthood and the deep hopes and fears that parents hold for their families and their futures, even as she navigated the absolutely unthinkable in her own life. And as a person of faith, I am so thankful that she is willing to ask hard questions and not be satisfied with easy answers. Such a needed message in a time when polarity and surety seem to be such easy and prevalent options. Definitely worth it to read and share!

This is a very good book with lots of information on herbs, where which ones like to grow, etc. My only regret is it doesn't contain more herbs although there are tons of them listed in this book. It is a great resource & I would love to see an expanded edition in the future!

Read this from cover to cover on a long trip. Excellent! I particulary like the "One Page Fact Sheet" format for all of the common herbs. For example, if you wake up on a Tuesday and think "Gee, I feel like growing lavender today," you can focus on the key factors like soil, sunlight, growing climate zone, plant needs, etc for JUST LAVENDER and know enough to be dangerous in 10 minutes.Also has good high-level information on planning/spacing the whole garden.

Great book! Lots of great information on planting, uses, and cultivation of herbs. I made an herb garden based on one in the book. I took it out at my library originally, renewed it, then decided I needed to own it!

This is an amazing book. I look at it all the time. It has a quick reference guide for every herb in the book which is my favorite part. I now know how to grow, use, re-grow every herb listed.

Miranda Smith's 'Your Backyard Herb Garden' is a beautiful book to browse. The photographs are helpful, but it's the sketches of herbs and gardens that are most appealing. It's a great book to dream through in late winter while planning a spring herb garden.I'm in the process of setting up my first two small 4x4 raised herb beds, and Smith's book is my 'go to' book. Each entry details not only how to plant but also where to plant and how to use the herb. There are introductory chapters on how to prepare beds, select and care for plants, and use herbs in cooking, crafts, and beauty products.An aspect that I greatly appreciate is the information detailing how to harvest and store herbs. When and how to cut herbs and whether they are best frozen or dried is confusing no longer.If, like me, you're a neophyte herb gardener, this is the place to start.

This little book is chock full of every piece of information one could need to set up, establish, and maintain an herb garden. It really is more than I had hoped for. I grow orchids, but have really no knowledge about herbs (except I love them!), and I live in Florida where the strong sunlight can be tricky. This book tells you how to grow from seeds or seedlings, the requirements of many herbs (all of the ones I was interested in anyway), which to grow with which, whether they are annual or perennial, how to use them for cooking, making vinegars, making oils, for medicinal purposes, whether they pose any health threats, etc. etc. etc. Would highly recommend this for any newbie herb gardener such as myself and quite possibly for someone who is already growing them, but would like more information.

I'm still reading through this book and enjoying all of the helpful information here. Garden planning, planting, care, selection, location, you name it I guess. So many herbs, so little time!! Lovely layout and illustrations. They have even included a side tab in the page margins which indicate the difficulty or care needed for each plant. Bravo

I am a first-time herb gardener this year, though I have had success with vegetables for some time, and I wanted to learn more about what to expect from those items I planted - when to harvest them, how to use & store them. This was perfect. The chapters were well-organized and covered nearly every herb that I hoped to see. Especially nice is the herb index at the end, giving a page of key facts about each garden favorite. When I am about to go out and snip some herbs, I can give the index a quick once over to remember which ones I should take when, and how.There were other books I looked over first, some with recipes or more in depth gardening advice, but this book was best aimed at what I wanted to know.

Rating: 4 stars - Loved ItSpoil Free review:Love Lorelei James sexy cowboys in her Rough Riders series and had no idea what I was getting into when I dived into Bound. I was sure not expecting what I got. I got much more. Lorelie James turned something into her own.Lorelei James captivated readers with the art of Shibari or at least for me she has. Shibari is an ancient Japanese artistic form of rope bondage. I have read many novels with BDSM and dealing with rope but never have I read a novel so descriptive and well explained. Who would think reading an erotic novel would be a learning tool. I was so amazed by this and of course had to do my own little research. Lorelei James did her research and did it well. That is why she is a top seller author. Plus she has a beautiful writing voice and knows how to make readers fall in love with her characters.So of course I fell in love with Ronin Black. I believe I fell in love with his name before him. I do love a mysterious hero and Ronin is as mysterious as they come. I wish more layers were pealed away about him because I feel like it was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his life, which he likes to keep private. Slowly the layers are peeled and not by his doing or choice, more so by Amery. Refreshing to have a hero of mixed-heritage with Japanese, Master and Owner of a Dojo. The first time he meets Amery he is intrigue by her fierceness and sexiness. He senses her desire to be bold and break free. He works hard, had not played in a long time and is need of some playtime. Ronin you can come play with me anytime. He is sexy, intense but at the same time all about her pleasures and patient. Amery is a patient heroine because after their hot first kiss there is no way I would be able to control my self.I enjoyed Amery character. Her past lovers were all about pleasuring themselves and not her. For her it is new and refreshing to finally find a lover who is all about her. I love that she is not shy in the bedroom department and is willing to explore. I found her a strong will heroine who does have limits when it comes to Ronin with Shibari.Love them as a couple. They both have a sense of humor and of course are deliciously sinful in the bedroom. Lorelei James knows how to write yummy scorching-panty changing scenes with a sexy-tattoo-biker riding-dirty talking Ronin. Their time together is also bumpy as he focuses on her completely that he reveals little of himself. While she believes she has opened herself up to him fully, she does not get that he has revealed more to her than he has anyone else. He just choice what was important to reveal about himself.Bound is in Amery POV and I really wanted to get into Ronins head and see some of his actions when it came towards Amery. Yes it is a cliffhanger and was sure how it was going to end but to my surprise it was done in Ronin POV and let me tell you that was truly the best. "Black Arts" is the name of a dojo, a room or hall in which judo and other martial arts are practiced. Ronin Black is the owner and Sensi of "Black Arts." He also has a black belt in jujitso and is a master of other martial arts, including kinbaku and shibari binding. These are forms of a Japanese style of bondage which involves tying the subject using simple yet visually intricate patterns, usually with several pieces of thin rope. I am not into BDSM but in the context of this book the "art" of binding is not really about dominance and submission in the usual sense. No D/s relationship, slave or power exchange, only light bondage play primarily with rope. This treatment of bondage allowed me to enjoy the eroticism of "Bound" without getting uptight.Of course Sensei Black is beyond handsome - he's the hero, after all. Of Japanese and Nordic descent he has "light brown eyes, the color of topaz" which tilt slightly. Strong, exotic, lethal at his art, he is everything sexy on the outside and a total enigma, a paradox, on the inside - very intense. Amery Hardwick, a North Dakota native, moved to Colorado after graduating college and is now fulfilling her dream... she owns her own graphic design business, small but growing. She is a talented, smart, self-sufficient woman... and beautiful, of course. There is also a rebellious part of Amery that desires to be bold, free to explore her sexual desires without the guilt.When Amery's friend and employee, Molly, is attacked, they both join the dojo for a course in self defense. Molly has become reclusive after the assault and Amery joins her for moral support. Sensei Black notices Amery immediately, (of course), because of her beauty and even more so because of her spirit and sass. He is drawn to her for another more subtle reason. You have to read the book to find out why. Soon after the 1st class, he shows up at Amery's office and offers to hire her. He wants a new logo created for Black Arts and believes she is the person to do the job.Well into their relationship, Ronin recognizes Amery's desires, on both sexual and emotional levels and asks her to trust him in being able to help her "let go" and feel the power she can obtain in surrendering to him. I enjoyed learning about shibari and kinbaku binding. Shibari refers to purely artistic, aesthetic rope, whilst kinbaku refers to the artistic, connective, sensual, sexual practice as a whole. I looked up this art form and found the images to be erotic, a true art form, without the usual S&M connotations.I have not read an erotic novel for some time and have never read any of the author's books. "Bound" is certainly different in the romantic erotic genre - well worth the read. It is exceptionally well written and the descriptive passages are quite sensual. The characters are fairly complex and their relationship is very intimate, not only sexually but emotionally. There are also plots and sub-plots...more intricate then usual with this type of novel. Obviously there are some steamy scenes, a wide variety of them.Lorelei James's tempers her narrative with humor, wild sexuality/sensuality, and an innate dominance that hooks even the most jaded of readers.*** SPOILER ALERT - the novel ends with a cliffhanger. There is a sequel. I strongly advise prospective readers to begin with "Bound" and then continue with "Unwound."JANA

I do not think there isn't anything Lorelei James writes that I will not like. This is a change from her smokin' hot alpha male cowboys I have grown to become addicted to.... But it still had the Lorelei James heat. The story pulls you in and and I became emotionally vested in the characters. Amery Hardwick has a dream job, great friends and a life she is comfortable in. She attends a self defense class with one of her friends and finds herself becoming singled out by Ronin Black, owner of the dojo where the class is held. Ronin is secretive and keeps people at arms length, but he finds himself drawn to Amery. Their chemistry is molten and the sexual tension is almost tangible... Their relationship takes a beating with lies, secrets and pasts neither were prepared to have to relive. But the love is obvious and the sexual chemistry could start a fire, maybe that is enough to make it last??? Only negative I could find in this book was there is a cliffhanger and I am dying to know what happens next...
